I am in the recreation business. Our mission is to provide our residents and business community, and visitors of NKC with the best possible environment for family recreation and leisure time enjoyment.

 

What led you to choose the profession or business/industry you are in ... why do you do what you do?

Originally, I thought if I could get a job at a recreational center, I would start working out on a regular basis again (that finally happened about three years later). But once I was hired, I was hooked. It was an exciting place to work. I am a creative person and am fortunate to have had the opportunity to create a variety of different programs and events over the course of my career.

 

What has been the biggest challenge or risk in your career or your business?

Budgets and quality staffing are always big challenges.

 

What has been the biggest success or source of accomplishment in your career or business?

I think about all the connections, relationships, and partnerships I have made over the years. Being a public servant in a community I love has allowed me the ability to create inviting spaces as well as quality programs and events. To quote Gandhi, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” I get to have a career I love; I’d say that’s success!

 

Who do you lean on for advice or ask for help ... do you have a mentor?

I would say I have several mentors. I work with and know so many talented people, that I respect and trust. It just depends on the situation.

 

What are some of your interests or activities outside your career or business?

I love to travel, just short little trips that I get a good deal on, if there’s a beach or a brewery nearby, even better.

 

What is one piece of advice you have for other Women in Business Leaders or other Female Entrepreneurs currently running a business or thinking about launching a company?

There’s a big space between uncomfortable enough and too uncomfortable, and that is where growth and innovation thrive.
